Edward Joseph Zimmerman, 65, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at his residence surrounded by his family after a courageous and brief battle with multiple myeloma.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St.
Michael's Catholic Church, with the Revs. Timothy Hogan and Merlin Schrad officiating. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.Ed was horn in Portsmouth, Iowa, on Jan. 13, 1937, the son of Martin and Laura (Bendon) Zimmerman. He graduated from Holy Name High School in Omaha. Neb. He served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Passumptic 0A21.
He married Eileen J. Fillipi on Dec. 30, 1961, at St. John's Catholic Church in Pender, Neb. Many friends and family helped them celebrate their 40th anniversary last December, Ed forged special friendships with coworkers, neighbors. parishioners and students at Blessed Sacrament School and Angel House. He loved every "Mabel" and "Charlie." Ed recently retired from Blessed Sacrament Church/School after 19 years of Service.
He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and served as an usher. He enjoyed fishing, horses, NASCAR races, playing cards, making salsa and sharing his garden produce. He had a special. friend in his Arabian horse, Chen Boy. Ed loved traveling and visiting his children. He made everyone feel special, and he will be missed by all.
Ed will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Eileen; three sons, Scott and his wife, Nancy Zimmerman of Sloan, Iowa, and Rod Zimmerman and Joe Zimmerman both of Portland, Ore.; three daughters, Lisa and her husband, Arthur Thatcher of Hampton, Va., Linda Zimmerman of Boston, Mass., and Leigh and her husband, Stoney Vintson of Portland; grandchildren, Eric and Ryan Zimmerman of Sloan, Iowa, and Graham and Caroline Thatcher of Hampton; two brothers, Mike and his wife, Jamie Zimmerman of Glendale, Ariz. and Larry and his wife, Anne Zimmerman of Omaha: a Sister, Jane and her husband, Allen Babendure of Phoenix, Ariz. and his mother-in-law, Blanche Fillipi of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Rita.
Pallbearers will be Mike and Larry Zimmerman, Art Thatcher, Stu Drummond, Tim Tott, Jim Barkley.
Honorary pallbearer will be Bill Rasmussen.
