Melvin W. Dawson, 85, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Richard Francis officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.
Mr. Dawson was born April 14, 1916, in Washta, Iowa, the son of William John and Maggie (White) Dawson. He graduated from Grand Meadow (Iowa)
High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked at Sioux Tools in Sioux City for over 40 years, retiring in 1981.He married Audrey P. Trout on June 25, 1940, in Sioux City. She died Nov. 17, 1986, in Sioux City. He later married Eileen (Fullerton) McCleerey on July 10, 1992 in Lawton, Iowa.
He was a member of West-minster Presbyterian Church, where he served as a past elder and deacon. He was also a member of Morningside Golden Years Card Club.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen; two sons, Ron Dawson and his wife, Jace, of Bisbee, Ariz., and Doug Dawson of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughter, Connie Fowler and her husband, Don, of Westminster, Colo. and Diana Gard of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a step-daughter and her husband, Bev and Bob Jipp of St. Louis, Mo.; a brother and his wife, Harlan "Bud" and Joyce Dawson of Sioux City; a sister, Bertha Sather of Sioux City; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three great-step-grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters.
Memorials in his name may be directed to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
