DANBURY - Vera T. Welte died on Monday, March 23, 2009, at age of 80 years, 7 months, and 7 days.
The Funeral Mass was held on Friday, March 27, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury. Officiating was Rev. Terry Roder. Organist Julie Hamann led the congregation in singing "Hail Mary Gentle Woman." "The Wind Beneath My Wings," "Angels Among Us," and "There You'll Be" were also played during the service.

Pallbearers were Shane Petersen, Jim Pullis, Steve Welte, Paul Scott, Rex Bonnes, Ashton Pullis, and Ed Scott.

Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren Teresa Reitz, Kristi Boatman, Brenda Wood, Jenni Meyer, Philip Welte, Matthew Welte, Lisa Welte, Justin Welte, and Sarah Davis. Church in Danbury. Interment was in Danbury Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation, the Rosary led by St. Mary's Rosary Society, and the Vigil Wake Service were held on Thursday, March 26, 2009, all at St. Mary's Catholic. Armstrong Funeral Service of Mapleton and Danbury is in charge of the arrangements.

Vera Traliece Welte was born on August 16, 1928, to Patrick and Elva (Downing) Pullis in Danbury. She attended school in Danbury, Oto, and Sioux City, graduating from Central High School in 1946 in Sioux City. She married Claire J. Welte, Sr. on June 12, 1947. They made their home on Middle Hills farm north of Danbury. From this union four sons were born, Skip, Frank, Bob, and David. She was a devoted wife, mother, and was known to her grandkids and great grandkids as "Grammy." She enjoyed golfing, gardening, watching and feeding her birds, reading, crocheting, and most of all shopping. She was known best for being on time which was always fashionably late. She always remembered your birthday or special occasion but couldn't remember where she tucked your gift away. She looked forward to her visits from her grandkids and great grandkids, always having goodies ready for them.

She was an avid photographer and won many awards over the years and enjoyed being a photography judge for the Woodbury County Fair. She also enjoyed hosting family events and parties. Her door was always open to everyone.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Rosary Society in Danbury.

Vera is survived by their four sons Claire Jr. "Skip" and his wife Judy of Sioux City, Frank II and fiancée Diane of Danbury, A. Robert and his wife Sherry of Danbury, and David and his wife Melanie of Granger; nine grandchildren, Teresa and her husband Kevin Reitz, Brenda and her husband Terrance Wood, Philip Welte and his special friend Jana, Lisa Welte and her special friend Mike Krom, Sarah and her husband Donald Davis, Kristi and her husband Jeremy Boatman, Jenni and her husband Josh Meyer, Matthew Welte, and Justin Welte; 19 great grandchildren Mariah Carrissa, and Whitlee Kafton, Taylor and Kaleb Reitz, Aidan and Clare Wood, Jacson Welte, Kayla and Kelsey Krom, Ethan, Kelsey, Logan, Kiley, Kenzey, Leighton Davis, Sienna Boatman, and Cooper Meyer; one great grandson due in May; her special friend Sheryl Goodenow; three sisters Nell Vetter, Sophie Jensen, and Nancy Over street and her husband John; three brothers Ken Pullis and his wife JoAnn, Jack Pullis and his wife Jean and Monte "Pat" Pullis; and her "special coconspirator" and caretaker Gaylene Brouillette; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Claire; her parents; her brothers Alvin "Buzzy" and Michael; a sister Charlene; and three brothers-in-law Robert Vetter, Skip Jensen and Douglas Zimmerman.
