29 March 2002Charles Leighton Perry, 83, of Sioux City died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Kevin Lee and John Hantla officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
Mr. Perry was born Feb. 6, 1919, in Sioux City, the son of Herbert H. and Mabel (Thomas) Perry. He moved to Portland, Ore. as a small child and graduated from high school in Portland.
He married Frances Wilson in 1940. She died in 1997.
Charles entered the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He worked for Greyhound as a bus driver, then for Farmers Insurance Co. and in his later years as a safety engineer for the Chubb Insurance Co.
He married Alice Morten on Aug. 6, 1998, in Portland. The couple made their home in Sioux City.
He was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church, Scandinavian Society, and the Elks Club. He loved motorcycles, particularly Harley Davidsons. He also enjoyed skiing, painting and golfing.
Survivors include his wife, Alice of Sioux City; two daughters, Susan Curl of Medford, Ore., and Stephanie Perry of Vancouver, Wash.; two grandchildren, Ron Morgan and Jessica Hamann; four great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Herbert Perry
