Dorothy B. Hoefer, 73, of Urbandale, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died peacefully Sunday March 3, 2002 at her winter home in Scottsdale, Ariz. surrounded by her husband and family.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Dunn's Funeral Home in Des Moines. Visitation with the family will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hoefer was born in Soldier, Iowa, and lived most of her life in Sioux City. In 1989, she moved to Des Moines.

She lived her life cherishing her husband, Robert, and her children and grandchildren. She brought fun and excitement to all as she made regular events special in every way. The family was fortunate to have loved and been loved by Dorothy.

Mrs. Hoefer was an avid reader and traveled around the world to many places she had read about. She was always ready to help anyone in need. She was passionate and filled every day with purpose.

Over the years, she was active in Eastern Star, Girl Scouts, Heart Association, Cancer Society, P.T.A., youth church activities and many other charities.

Dorothy was admired and respected by those she touched and as anyone who knew her can attest, she was an individual in all ways. She always stood strong in her beliefs.

Survivors include her husband, Robert; a son, Mark Hoefer and his family of West Des Moines: and two daughters, Barbara Crowley and her family of West Des Moines and Gail Merritt and her family of Westlake Village, Calif.

We will miss her humor, her story telling, her beauty, her support and most a all her love. She was a larger-than-life presence in our lives.
