SIOUX CITY -- Betty Eirinberg, 91, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, in Davenport.

Services will be 1 p.m. today at Congregation Beth Shalom in Sioux City, with Rabbi Guy Greene officiating. Burial will follow the services in Independent Farane Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Betty was born July 7, 1918, in Sioux City, to Louis and Anna Levine. The family then relocated to Seattle, Wash. In 1938, Betty married Phil Eirinberg in Sioux City. Betty met her husband while visiting in Sioux City. Phil later passed away.

Betty attended the University of Washington and Cornish Music School, where she received a scholarship in music theory to Oxford University in Oxford, England. She also attended the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Mass.

Betty was a concert pianist, taught piano and played at concerts in Seattle and Sioux City. She wrote a musical skit titled "The Life and Works of Leonard Bernstein," which she performed in cities across the U.S. She was assisted by Mr. Bernstein's secretary.

Betty was a member of Shaare Zion Synagogue for more than 50 years as well as a member of the Shaare Zion Women's League. She was a member of Sioux City Chapter Hadassah, a past president of Brandeis University Women's College and a member of its National Board. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Sioux City Women's Club, past president of Sioux City Schubert Club, member of the Quota Club, a board member of Sioux City Symphony and a past director of Concert Course.

Betty is survived by two daughters, Joan Kohn and her husband, Andrew of Cleveland, Ohio, and Judy Rubin and her husband, Gary of Carbondale, Colo.; one son, Jeff Eirinberg and his wife, Katrina of Rock Island, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
