SIOUX CITY -- Eric J. Yockey, 34, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, comforted by family, at a local hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Dakota Dunes, with the Rev. Kevin D. Vogts officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.

Eric was born Nov. 11, 1975, in Oakland, Calif. After living in Pasco, Wash., Grass Valley, Calif., and Amarillo, Texas, the family settled in Siouxland. Eric graduated from South Sioux City Public Schools with the class of 1994. He worked at Beef Products Inc. in South Sioux City for the past 10 years.

Eric is survived by his parents, Ronald and Jeannette Yockey of Dakota Dunes; John Wheeler; son, Travis Yockey and daughter, Katelyn Yockey of Sergeant Bluff; maternal grandmother, Yvonne Beasley of Pullman, Wash.; paternal grandparents, William and Verlie Yockey of Sioux City; four aunts; four uncles; and numerous cousins.

Eric was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ted C. Beasley.

Pallbearers for the service will be Chris Yockey of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Shawn Yockey of Ankeny, Iowa, Josh Fleckenstine of Sioux City, Dave Rose of Dakota Dunes, Ryan Jorgensen of Sioux City, and Jay Fleckenstine of Sioux City.
