Danbury, IA - Bonita "Bonnie" Hamers of Danbury, Iowa, died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa at the age of 78 years and 11 days.

Visitation was on Sunday, April 21st with the Rosary led by St. Mary's Rosary Society and a Vigil Wake Service at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury. Visitations resumed Monday. The funeral Mass for Bonnie was on Monday, April 22, 2002, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury with the Revs. Bill Schreiber, Edmund Tiedeman, and Ray Wieling officiating. Dennis Ortner was the lector. Michelle and Amy Hamers brought up the offertory. Pallbearers were Kevin, Steve, and David Hamers, Mike Ramm, Ed Ortner, and Dan Hegarty. Bonita Kane as organist and St. Mary's Choir led the music. The American Legion Auxiliary Carlson-Frum Unit #336, of Danbury led the auxiliary service. Burial was in the Danbury Catholic Cemetery. Armstrong Funeral Home of Danbury and Mapleton was in charge of the arrangements.

Bonita Elizabeth (Bonnie) Hamers was born April 7, 1924, at Danbury, the daughter of John and Mary Kleine Ortner. She graduated from St. Mary's Grade School. She married Donald Hamers June 14, 1948, in Danbury. He died November 30, 1984. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Rosary Society, American Legion Auxiliary, and served as secretary and vice president of Dana Apartments board.

She is survived by two sons and their wives, Rick and Lynn, and Bob and Kathy all of Danbury; five grandchildren, Kevin and his wife Carrie of Coralville, Steve and his wife Rita of Danbury, David of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Michelle of Iowa City, and Amy of Danbury; one great granddaughter, Kaitlynn; two sisters, Marie Grace and her husband Joe of Beaverton, Oregon, and Betty Ramm of Sioux City; one brother, Arnold Ortner and his wife Mary Ann of Danbury; one sister in-law Laura Ortner of Mapleton; two step-brothers, Fr. Ray Wieling of Sioux City, and Edwin Wieling and his wife Maria all of Sioux City; and three steps-sisters, Alice and her husband Melvin Boysen, Dorothy and her husband Vincent Boyle all of Danbury, and Marion Trucke of Castana.

She was preceded in death by two sisters Lorene Hegarty and Marita Ortner, one brother Wayne Ortner, her parents and her step¬mother Ann Ortner.
