3 April 2002Richard Bramley Pope, 61, died on Saturday, March 23, 2002, at his Anthon, Iowa home.
Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, March 26, 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Anthon with Rev. William Schreiber, Rev. Boes, Rev. Gall and Rev. Whiteing, officiating. LaMona Welte served as organist and Ann Bass as soloist. Pallbearers were Bernard Ketelsen, Jerry Klindt, Greg Bass, Ron Boekhout, Jason. Kearnes, Roger Nelson, Fred Harden and Gene Schoneman. Rosary led by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas was held Monday evening at 4:00 p.m. A vigil Wake service was held at 7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial was at Pleasant View Cemetery, Little Rock, Iowa under direction of Armstrong Funeral Service.
Richard Bramley Pope was born October 19, 1940 at Little Rock, Iowa, the son of Leo and Edith Mae (Bramley) Pope. He attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated in 1959 from Little Rock High School. He attended Iowa State University in Ames for one year where he enrolled in the R.O.T.C. Program. After one year, he transferred to Westmar College in LeMars and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He then worked for Commercial Credit in Sioux City. On June l, 1963 he married Mary Catherine Keitges in Anthon, Iowa. The couple returned to Westmar College and earned his Bachelor of Ares Degree in Education.
In 1966 they moved to Anthon where he began teaching at the Anthon-Oto school. Currently he was teaching Science and Social Studies to the fifth grade with plans for retirement. His wife, Mary, passed away October 27, 1997.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon. He enjoyed the out-doors, fishing, hunting, hiking and walking. He enjoyed visiting with other people and especially a cup of coffee.
Survivors include his three sons, Jeff of Winnebago, Nebraska, Mike of Oto, Iowa and David of Anthon; one brother, Ron and his wife Betty of Little Rock; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
