6 March 2002Marcella Marie Tracy, 81, of Salix, Iowa, died Thursday, February 7, 2002, at her residence following a brief illness.
She was born June 26, 1920, in Bemis, South Dakota, the daughter of George and Lucy (Bruer) Spartz. She attended country school in South Dakota. During World War II she served in the U.S. Army W.A.C.S. as a sergeant at the Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. On May 27, 1947, she married James P. Tracy at Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City. She was a homemaker and had been a resident of Salix for 50 years.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix and the George Nelson American Legion Post #662 in Sergeant Bluff.
Survivors include her husband, James; four daughters, Sandra Tracy of Salix; Linda and her husband, Dennis Fey of Sioux City, Iowa; JoAnn and her husband, Ken Schmitz of Petersburg, Nebraska, and Agatha of Kansas City: six grandchildren, Michael and Jennifer Fey, Michelle, Laura, Andrew, and Beth Schmitz; a brother, Paul Spartz of Watertown, South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; two sisters; and a son, Kenneth.
The Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 11, 2002, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salix, Iowa, with Father Donald J. Steven, Mass Celebrant. The organist was Christina Martinez and the Cantor was Dorothy Hubert. Congregational Hymns were "Faith of Our Fathers" and "Holy God". The Communion Hymn was "Bread Blessed and Broken".
Casket Bearers were Bob Spartz, Rod Spartz, George Dandurand, Garold Smith, Billy Shreve, and Doug Blakely.
Interment was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Salix, Iowa, with Military Services by
George Nelson American Legion Post #662, Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.Arrangements were by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
