James P. Tracy, 77, of Salix. Iowa, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, after being stricken unexpectedly at his residence on March 5,2002.

Jim was born January 25, 1925, in Salix the son of Paul and Jennie (Kinnaman) Tracy. He was a longtime resident of Salix. He sailed with the U.S.C.G. Merchant Marines during World War II as an oiler. He served on a convoy to Murmask, Russia.

He worked at Needham's packing Company until it closed, then for the Woodbury County Conservation and as a Wells Fargo guard at Unit 4 with Iowa Public Service. He retired in 1996.

On May 27, 1947, he married Marcella Spartz at The Cathedral of the Epiphany Catholic Church in Sioux City: She passed away February 7, 2002.

Survivors include four daughters, Sandra of Salix. Linda and her husband, Dennis Fey of Sioux City, JoAnn and her husband, Ken Schmitz of Petersburg. Nebraska and Agatha of Kansas City; six grandchildren, Michael and Jennifer Fey and Michelle, Laura, Andrew and Beth Schmitz: two sisters, Cecelia Anjo of Pleasanton, California, and Geraldine Bauerly of Castro Valley, California; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Kenneth; and six brothers and sisters.

A Prayer Service was held at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix at 7:00 Sunday, March 10, 2002.

The Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 a.m. Monday. March 11, 2002, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salix, Iowa, with Father Donald J. Slaver, Celebrant. The organist was Christina Martinez and the Cantor was Mary Holzerland.

Congregational Hymns were "Faith Of Our Fathers" and "Holy God". The Communion Hymn was "Bread Blessed and Broken."

Honorary Bearers were Ray Beason, Francis Hubert, Louis Kroll, and Jake Means.

Casket Bearers were Rod Spartz, Bob Spartz, Doug Blakely, Garold Smith, Bill Anderson, and Jeff Burkhart.

Interment was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Salix, Iowa, with Military Service by George Nelson American Legion Post #662, Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
