10 December 2009SIOUX CITY -- Robert Dale Skinner, 77, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Dan Guenther officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City.
Robert was born Feb. 9, 1932, in Laurel, Neb., to Elmer and Ella (Darland) Skinner. As a young child, the family moved to Sioux City. Robert resided here until 2006 when he moved to Spirit Lake. On Oct. 7, 1950, he married Shirley Ann Meyer in Sioux City. She passed away May 23, 2003.
Robert was employed as an office manager for several transportation companies in Siouxland. He was a former member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and St. Mary Catholic Church, Spirit Lake.
Robert served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 when he was honorably discharged. Robert enjoyed golfing, bowling and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include sons Ray and Florence Skinner of Bronson, Iowa, and Douglas and Amy Skinner of Spirit Lake; a daughter Linda and Kevin O'Connor of Rocky Mount, N.C.; grandchildren Nick, Cody, Luke and Matt Skinner of Bronson, Natallie O'Connor of Palatine, Ill., Christy and David Mitchell of Raleigh, N.C., Emily and Patrick Carey of Raleigh, and Michael, Ella and Sam Skinner of Spirit Lake; one great-grandchild Sydney Mitchell of Raleigh; brothers Marion Skinner and Doy Skinner; and sisters Shirley Herbert and Nancy Robinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, sisters Donna Curry and Bonnie Skinner and a brother Darrell Skinner.
