SIOUX CITY -- Gary Dwight Boykin Sr., 62, of Aurora, Colo., formerly of Sioux City, died Dec. 5, 2009, due to illness in Aurora, Colo.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City, with interment following at Dakota County Cemetery, Dakota City, Neb. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Condolences may be sent online to meyerbroschapel.com.

A memorial service was held on Dec. 9 at Olinger Mortuary in Aurora, Colo.

Gary was born on Oct. 28, 1947, in South Sioux City to the Rev. and Mrs. George Boykin. He married his current wife, Berni Hinkhouse Boykin, on Aug. 8, 1987, in Aurora, Colo. He graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1965.

He worked for Zenith and JCPenney in Sioux City before moving to Colorado where he managed "The Bowl" for AMF, Brunswick and Elitch Lanes. While with AMF, he was awarded Proprietor of the Year in 2000. He and his wife started "The Gamblers Las Vegas" bowling league in 1984 of which they were members for over 20 years.

Gary was an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Denver Broncos and Denver Nuggets. One memorable moment for Gary was getting an autograph from Tim "The Barrel Man" McKernan of the Denver Broncos. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and watching his grandchildren play basketball.

Survivors include his wife Berni; son, Gary Boykin Jr., Sioux City; grandchildren, Trey, Troy and Terah Boykin, Aurora, Colo.; sister, Mary Helen (Dr. Mark) Fields, Libertyville, Ill.; brothers, George (Michele) Boykin, Sioux City, and Alfred (Marcia) Boykin, Sioux City; bother-in-law, Hertha Hinkhouse, Correctionville, Iowa; in-laws, Carol Welch, Jane (Lee) Prueher, Georga (Tom) Bray, Tom Hinkhouse, Richard (Peggy) Hinkhouse; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents; brothers Donnie and Gene, sister Jeanette, nephew Richie and brother-in-law Clayton Welch.
