SIOUX CITY -- Helen L. Calhoun, 96, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Michelle Williamson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Helen was born April 5, 1913, in Sioux City, the daughter of Tony H. and Evelyn (McClain) Snyder. She graduated from Central High School in 1931.

She was united in marriage to Dean Calhoun on June 2, 1934, in Sioux City. Dean's death occurred on April 4, 1998. She owned and operated Service Cleaners until retiring.

She was a member of Whitfield United Methodist Church. Family was number one in her life. She enjoyed being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include two grandchildren, Joe Norton III (Jennifer) of Sioux City and Stacey Norton-Modrell (James) of Moville, Iowa; five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Megan, Katelyn, Alexa and Jace; and a special niece, DeVonna Hancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dean; a daughter, Sally; and a son-in-law, Joe Norton Jr.

Pallbearers will be James Modrell, Jace Modrell, Gene Hancer, Jim Schulz and Jacob Norton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Hospice of Siouxland or Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
