SIOUX CITY -- Julie M. Crow, 104, of Sioux City died Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at St. James United Methodist Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Ryan Christenson officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Benkelman Cemetery, Benkelman, Neb. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Julia was born Jan. 22, 1905, in Berkley Springs, W.Va., the daughter of the Rev. Charles and Nannie (Blaker) Bennett. At the age of 4, she came with her parents and family to Waco, Neb., where her father pastored the United Brethren Church. She graduated from York College Academy in 1929.

She was teaching in Max, Neb., when she met and married Wayne Crow. She continued her teaching career for many years, wherever a teacher was needed. She loved teaching and the development of young minds was important to her. She and Wayne moved to Max, Neb., in 1967, then to Benkelman Rainbow Apartments in 1982. Wayne died in 1982. In 1992, she moved to Sioux City to be close to her nephews and nieces, who were there to help her in her last years.

She was a 50-year member of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church the last 17 years. Her hobbies were reading, poetry, watching and caring for birds and growing flowers.

She is survived by her nieces, Phyllis Rule of Carroll, Ohio, Kaye Washington and her husband, Tony of Columbus, Ohio, and Phyllis Bennett and Joyce Bennett, both of Sioux City; her nephews, Bill Bennett and his wife, Anna Mae of Woodland Hills, Calif., Delbert Bennett and his wife, Janie of Fenton, Mo., and Rod Bennett and his wife, Dee of Omaha; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; her brothers and sisters; and nephews, Maynard and Gil Bennett.

The family suggests memorials to St. James United Methodist Church.
