3 December 2009SIOUX CITY -- Lawrence "Larry" A. Lara, 71, of Sioux City passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, in his home.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Family visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday. Waterbury Funeral Service is assisting the family.
Lawrence Ascension Lara was born Sunday, May 29, 1938, in Sioux City, son of Sisto and Guadalupe Lara. He was baptized in the Catholic faith and graduated from Central High School in 1958. He took great pride in his work as a machinist at Dyna Technology.
He played softball and basketball and later found joy in youth athletics. He was a life guard and worked at the Boys Club. He also volunteered as a basketball coach at the Salvation Army and the YMCA. Among his favorite activities were watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He loved music and dancing and enjoyed fishing and horse racing.
Lawrence will be lovingly remembered by his beloved, Marilyn B. Lara; the three daughters he described as beautiful, Janice M. Lund and her husband, Victor of Sioux City, Dr. Tracy M. Lara of Kent, Ohio, and Marilyn D. Lara of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Michelle Lund, Trevor Sims, Vincent, Megan, and Molly Lund; one brother, Vincent Lara of Sioux City; three sisters, Tony and Gary Cain and Anita and Dan Harrington, all of Sioux City and Roxanne and Jack Allen of Johnston, Iowa; three goddaughters, Stephanie Boeckmann, Bernadette Wyatt, and Jennifer Lorenzen; and three godsons, Charlie Lara, Wyatt Lara, and Nathan Lara.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Irene Treglia; two brothers, Paul and John Lara; Margeane and Henry "Shorty" Hofeldt; one brother-in-law; and two sister-in-laws.
A memorial fund has been established by the family
