3 December 2009SIOUX CITY -- Richard D. Fry, 73 of Arnolds Park, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at his home in Arnolds Park.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First Lutheran Church in West Okoboji, Iowa. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Richland Cemetery, Inwood, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Turner Funeral Home in Milford, Iowa, in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to turnerfuneralhomes.com.
Richard Fry was born March 14, 1936, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Kenneth C. Fry and Bernice (Bullock) Fry. He graduated from Inwood High School in 1954, and attended Morningside College in Sioux City. Richard served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1959.
On Aug. 29, 1959, Richard was united in marriage to Verla Olen in Sioux Falls, S.D. He resided in Sioux City, before moving to Arnolds Park, Iowa, in 2000.
Richard was a member of the Emerald Hills Golf Course and the Morningside Country Club in Sioux City. He attended the First Lutheran Church in Milford. He enjoyed sports, golfing, reading and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Verla Fry; sons, Daniel K. and his wife, Linda and Steven D. and his wife, Mary Jo; daughter, Carol L. Goans and her husband, Steve; brothers, John, Jerome and his wife, Elaine and Robert; sisters, Norma Hoover and her husband, Kenny, Shirley Helwig and Bonnie Wald; six grandchildren, Amanda Fry, Travis Fry, Emily Goans, Sean Goans, Tyler Fry and Shannon Fry; sister-in-law, Ellen Van Berkum; brother-in-law, Earl Van Berkum; numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by an infant sister, Caroline; his parents, Kenneth and Bernice Fry.
