Dale L. Pair, 77, of Sioux City died Sunday, Feb. 24,2002, at a Sioux City hospital of complications from a severe heart attack suffered while shoveling snow after the Feb. 9-10, 2002 snow storm.

Memorial services will he 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, with a luncheon to follow. Private graveside services will be held today in Graceland Park. Cemetery. Visitation we'll be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Dale L. Pair was born to John R. and Fannie P. (Caldwell) Pair on Oct. 17, 1924, in Volga, S.D. The family moved to Brookings, S.D. and then to Burr Oak, Kan. At the age of four, Dale and his family moved to Ida Grove, Iowa, where he spent his childhood years on the farm. Dale received his first eight years of education in Ida Grove.

With a love of learning, and a thirst for knowledge. Dale studied for his high school diploma. On April 30. 1976, he was awarded his high school diploma in Sioux City.

Dale moved to Sioux City in 1944. His first job was as a bell-hop at the Martin Hotel. There he met Peggy Harriet Fenner, who was a switchboard operator. They were married on April 20, 1946, in Sioux city. Peggy died of cancer on May 8, 2000, in Sioux City. They had one daughter, Dawn.

Dale was employed by the Sioux City Engineering Department and by a blue-print-engineering firm prior to joining Iowa Public Service in August 1946. He worked as a bill deliverer, meter reader and in the order department and bookkeeping department. He was transferred to the mail department in 1948. In 1959, he was promoted to supervisor of the mail and stationary department. He remained in this position until his retirement on Aug. 1, 1986, after 40 years of service.

Dale was an active member of First United Methodist Church for 40 years. He was a member of the church administration board and council, Bible study class, Keenagers and the Handy Dandy's. He also tape recorded the church services for shut-ins. He was also past member of the stewardship committee: He also took part in various Paint¬A-Thons.

Dale was a member of the Sioux City Engineers Club. He served as a program chair and a member of the board of directors. Dale was a member of the Seven-Dollar Club at the Sioux-land Blood Bank, He delivered meals-on-wheels. He drove people to speaking engagements. various appointments, luncheons, dimers and other events.

Dale was an avid golfer. He was the holder of five holes-in-one between 1989 and 2001. He was a member of the 39 and Holding golf group, the Engineers golf group, the Senior Couples League golf group and the IPS Retirees' golf group. He played with several other golf groups as well.

Dale enjoyed working on the Pair and Caldwell family genealogy, history, reading. talking, and corresponding with his daughter. granddaughter, brother and their families, Woodworking, swimming, fishing and boating, He also enjoyed caring for the neighbor's two dogs whenever they were out-of-town. Dale also built a garage, as well as furniture, repaired television sets when they still used tubes and radios. He also enjoyed doing home repairs, painting and yard work for people who could not do it themselves.

Dale is survived by his daughter and her husband, Dawn and David Fairbrother of Owatonna, Minn.; a brother, Ralph W. Pair of Clinton. Ill.; a granddaughter and her husband. Kimberly Ann and Todd Koehler of Bainbridge, Ohio; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and special friends, Mark Elgert, Deb Hodgins and Jesse, plus Bo and Keeshe.

In addition to his wife, Dale was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.

Memorials preferred to First United Methodist church or the donor's choice.
