Glenn H. Breiland, 88, of Alpena, S.D., formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997, at his son's residence in Alpena following a brief illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Allen D. Call, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Sergeant Floyd Post 1973. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Breiland was born Oct. 29, 1908, in Manitoba, Canada, the son of Martin and Margaret (Lee) Breiland.
He married Bonnie Lou Phillips on Nov. 16, 1945, in Sioux City. She died Sept. 6, 1993, in Sioux City.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. He attended numerous military reunions throughout the years.
Mr. Breiland was a self-employed truck driver for 54 years, retiring in 1987. He moved to Alpena in July 1997.
He was a member of the American Legion and the Eagles Lodge in Fargo, N.D. He enjoyed horses.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Gary and Geraldine of Alpena; and a sister, Thelma Breiland of Fargo, N.D.
