22 April 1998Gertrude E. Schilling, 88, formerly of Salix, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at the Minnesota Masonic Care Center in Bloomington, Minnesota.
Mrs. Schilling was born January 15, 1910, at Esseg, Minnesota. She was raised in the New Ulm area. She married Cart Theodore Schilling May 8, 1933, at Springfield, Minnesota. The couple came to Salix in 1945. She had been employed as a cook for 20 years at St. Joseph School in Salix. Mr. Schilling died August 31,1975, at Onawa, Iowa. In November 1995 she became a resident of Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting and had been at the care center in Bloomington for the last year.
She was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church at Salix and the Tabernacle Society.
Survivors include her daughter, Amelda Schilling of Iowa Falls, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Carl J. and Shirley of Kansas City, Mo. and Bernard W. and Wanda of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Julie Schilling and her husband Clint Varnel, Laurie Schilling and Pam Schilling; and one great granddaughter, Katie Varner.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Myrtle; and three brothers, Herb, Roy, and Art.
A Scripture Service was 7 p.m. Friday, April 3, 1998, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salix, Iowa, with organist Mrs. Greg Heisterkamp and Mrs. Dorothy Hubert.
A Funeral Mass was at 10:30 am. Saturday, April 4, 1998, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salix, Iowa with Father Bruce Lawler, Mass Celebrant.
The organist was sister Arnold Staudt and the Cantor was Dorothy Hubert.
Casket bearers were Larry Beeson, Mike McKenna, Herbert Pepin, Dan Beeson, Robert Topf, and Clink Varnel.
Interment was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Salix, Iowa with arrangements by Wood funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
