SIOUX CITY | Jennie E. Shaputis, 96, of Lincoln, Neb., formerly of Sioux City, passed on to our Lord Dec. 14, 2012, at her home.

Private graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Calvary Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, with a rosary and prayer service at 7 p.m. officiated by Deacon Ron Forrest of Immaculate Conception Parish, at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City.

Jennie E. Benzink was born on June 24, 1916, in Sioux City, the daughter of Steve and Anna (Hordzwich) Benzink.

Jennie married Peter Shaputis, the love of her life, on April 13, 1940. They made their home in Sioux City, where they raised their three children, Patricia, Diane and Gregory. Jennie worked for Cudahy Packing Co., Armour & Co., and Swift & Company until her retirement. Peter passed away on Sept. 3, 1985.

Jennie was a member of St. Francis and St. Casimir Catholic Church in Sioux City. She was also part of the St. Casimir Rosary Society and its alumni club. Jennie loved to fish, go camping and dearly loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her love and laughter will be missed most.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia and William Sappingfield of Sioux City; her daughter and caregiver, Diane and Rick (deceased) Carter of Lincoln; a son, Gregory Shaputis and Connie of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren, Scott Sappingfield, JoAnn Sappingfield, Dawn (Jody) Hass, Phil Titus, Kevin Carter, Jeremy (Sarah) Carter, Billy Sappingfield, Lance (Cindy) Sappingfield, Paul (Joan) Shaputis and Angie (Justin) Stabe; 19 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances Suknot of Sioux City; and many other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Peter; two brothers, Ludwick and Lou Benzink; two sisters, Sophie Cislo and Mary Schultz; and son-in-law and longtime caregiver, Richard Carter.
