PIERSON, Iowa — Sophie Victoria Patterson, 78, of Pierson died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley, Iowa, with the Rev. James Fangman of St. Michael's Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Pierson. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Wednesday until service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Patterson was born Oct. 28, 1919, in Hempstead, N.Y., the daughter of Lawrence and Anna (Stenpin) Majewski. She graduated from Hempstead High School.

She was employed at the airplane manufacturer, Republic, in Long Island, N.Y. for a few years.

She married Lester L. "Pat" Patterson on March 10, 1944, in Hempstead. The couple moved to Pierson in 1946. He died in 1978.

She was employed as a bartender for several years and later for Pierson Farmer's Co-op and Farmer's State Bank in housekeeping until retiring.

She was a member of Pierson American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed fishing, camping and gardening.

Survivors include two sons, Larry and his wife, Daletta, of Washta, Iowa, and Paul and his special friend, Deb (Koch) Carter of Moville, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Chad and Aaron Patterson, Paula (Patterson) Roling, Bobby Wilke, Jennifer Pruel, Tricia Reusch and James Joy; five great-grandchildren; two sisters and their husbands, Wanda and Al Muller of Long Island and Jenny and Toni Salvetti of Boston, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Katie Majewski of Long Island; a brother-in-law and his wife, Ted and Lola Patterson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Pallbearers will be Chad Patterson, Todd Roling, Gayle Morgan, Wade Pruel, James Joy and Cal Quintard.
