PIERSON, Iowa — Leonard M. Koch, 87, of Pierson died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Pierson United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Keith Pals officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m. at Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley, Iowa.

Mr. Koch was born Jan. 28, 1911, in Hartington, Neb., the son of William and Hilda (Carlson) Koch. He moved with his family to Laurel, Neb. He married Esther Forinash on Feb. 18, 1933, in Elk Point, S.D. The couple farmed in the Moville, Iowa,area. In 1967, they moved near Pierson where they farmed for many years. They retired and moved into Pierson in 1987. He entered the Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center in May 1998.

He was of the Methodist faith and a member of Pierson Senior Citizens Group.

Survivors include his wife; four sons and their wives, Carroll and Wanda of Moville, Bill and Mina of Pierson, Kenneth and Pat of Hawarden, Iowa, and Loren and Sheryl of Kingsley; two daughters and their husbands, Darlene and Wendall Roling, of Rapids City, S.D., and DeEtte and Neil Peck of Sioux City; five sisters, Cecilia and her husband, John Rich, of Blair, Neb.; Marie Goettsch of Sioux City, Wilma and her husband, Frank Schane of Georgia, Evelyn and her husband, Seth Helgerson, of Sioux City and Loretta and her husband, Merlin Muecke of Hinton, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Vera Koch of Omaha, Neb.; a brother-in-law, Bill Strong of Wilmar, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Poling and Doris Strong; and two brothers, Robert and Richard.
