PIERSON, Iowa — Leo Farber, 89, of Pierson died Monday, May 11, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Pierson United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Keith Pals officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at the Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley, Iowa.

Mr. Farber was born May 6, 1909, in rural Correctionville, Iowa, the son of James H. and Minnie (Gibbs) Farber. He was raised in the Correctionville and Anthon, Iowa area.

He Married Marjorie Pease on Nov. 12, 1934, in South Sioux City. The couple lived in Aurelia, Iowa for two years. In 1936, they moved to Pierson, where he owned and operated the Farm Implement dealerŽship for over 40 years. He then had the Allis-Chalmers Farm dealership in Pierson for over 10 years.

He was a member of Pierson United Methodist Church, the Woodbury County Fair board and the Rutland Masonic Lodge in Pierson. He served on the Simpco board for 10 years and as councilman and mayor in Pierson for over 46 years.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Dorothy and her husband Louis Blackburn of Norway, Iowa and Helen Mahaney of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Don and Mona of Okoboji, Iowa; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret Handke of Anthon, Mildred Nourse of Missouri Valley, Iowa and Lena Zimmerman of Atlantic, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Farber of Moville, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence, Floyd, Homer and Tom; and three sisters, V Farber in infancy, Edna and Mary Lee Krueger.
