Manuel J. "Manny" Coury, 86, of Sioux City died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, at his residence.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed
Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas E. Geelan officiating. There will be an honor guard provided by the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus at the service.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 2 to 4 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., a rosary at 7:30 p.m. said by the Third Degree Knights of Columbus followed by a Chalice service conducted by the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, all at the Larkin Northside Funeral Home. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 6:30 until after the Chalice service today at the funeral home.

Mr. Coury was born May 4, 1912, in Sioux City, the son of James A. and Barbara (Bata]) Coury.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater.

He married Helen V. Hazer on Feb. 23, 1946, in Des Moines. She died April 13, 1979, in Sioux City.

He was employed with Swift and Company for more than 30 years, retiring in 1977.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and a former member of St. Joseph Church, where he served as an usher. He was a member of the Epiphany Council 743 Third Degree Knights of Columbps, the Garrigan Assembly of the Foriith Degree Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society. He was an avid sports fan.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Barbara A. and Michael Detlefsen of Slippery Rock, Penn., and Mary K. and Carlos Carrillo of Sioux City; a son, Manuel J. Jr. of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Maria Carrillo and Brad Detlefsen; a brother and his wife, David and Marcella of Sioux City; a sister, Clara Macy of Golden, Colo.; two sisters-in-law, Freda M. Coury of Sioux City and Phyllis Coury of Riverside, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Michael, Edward, Nicholas and Alfred; and a sister, Edna M. Coury.

Pallbearers will be Brad Detlefsen, Maria and Carlos Carrillo, Rick Coury, Raymond Macy and Dennis Madden.
