SIOUX CITY | Betty "Joan" Hansel, 76, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at a local hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with Rev. the Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Joan was born on July 9, 1936, in Sioux City, the daughter of Paul and Maxine (Gibbs) Leaf. She graduated from Bishop Heelan High School. She worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. before and after her high school graduation.

On Feb. 9, 1957, she married Gerald D. "Jerry" Hansel in Sioux City. Joan later worked many years in the lunch program for the Sioux City Community School District.

Joan enjoyed the Colorado Bulldogs, playing cards, dice, cooking and spending quality time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry; four children, Craig Hansel and his wife, Diane of Lenexa, Kan., Jill Dugdale and her husband, Steve of Sioux City, Scott Hansel of Dallas, Texas, and TJ Hansel and his wife, Lisa of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Melissa (Dusty) Tanner, Stephen (Haley) Dugdale, Jessica (Jake) Bustillo, Megan Hansel, Codi Graves, Taylor Graves and Tanner Hansel; five great-grandchildren, triplets, Aspen, Madalen and Landen Tanner, Channing Heck and soon to arrive, baby Liam Bustillo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a twin sister, Barbara Jean Coon.

Pallbearers will be her family.
