David J. Coury, 82, of Sioux City died Friday, Aug. 14, 1998, at his home.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church with the Rev. Lawrence L. McCarty officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. at Larkin Northside Funeral Home.

Mr. Coury was born Jan. 16, 1916, in Sioux City, the son of James A. and Barbara (Batal) Coury. A lifelong resident of Sioux City, he graduated from Central High School in 1935. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Marcella M. Kashas on Aug. 21, 1948, in Sioux City. He was employed by Swift and Co. for 40 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Swift Employees Retired, Local #71. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and a former member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, David J. Jr., of Sioux City, and Stephen Coury and his wife, Gail, of Aurora, Colo.; two daughters, Barbara and her husband, Clark Smith of San Rafael, Calif., and Jean Coury of Sioux City; five grandsons, Clark and Corey Smith, and Stephen, Michael, and Zachary Coury; and a sister, Clara Macy, of Denver, Colo.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Michael, Edward, Nicholas, Manuel, and Alfred Coury; and a sister, Edna M. Coury.

Pallbearers will be Clark and Corey Smith, Louis Kober, John Schmitz, Raymond Macy, and Robert Amland.
