William Joseph Coughlin, 83, of Sioux City died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Northside Funeral Home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

Mr. Coughlin was born Oct. 21, 1919, in Sioux City, the son of John and Maude (Robinson) Coughlin. He attended Cathedral Grade School and graduated from Trinity High School in 1937. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on both the Atlantic and Pacific fleets. He worked in the engineering department at McDonald-Douglas Aeronautics Plant in Santa Monica, Calif., and at the Lockheed Aeronautics Plant in Marietta, Ga. He operated a carpet cleaning business in Georgia for several years. He retired in 1982 and moved to Van Nuys, Calif. In 1994 he returned to Sioux City.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and a former longtime member of St. Jean's (The French) Church in Sioux City. He greatly enjoyed golfing.

Survivors include his daughter and her husband, Mary Kathleen and Cliff Cowart of Holly Springs, Ga.; two grandsons, Ryan and Will Cowart; a sister, Maurine Coughlin of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Mike, Tim, Jim, Vincent, John, Kevin, Terry and Dan Coughlin.

A memorial has been established in his hame for the Queen of Peace.
