Carl H. Counterman, 85, of Sioux City died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Carol James of Trimble United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Sergeant Floyd Post 1973. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the funeral home.

Mr. Counterman was born Nov. 17, 1917, in Sioux City. He was a lifelong Sioux City resident. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He married Bernice L. Anderson on July 1, 1940, in Sioux City. He was an engineer with the Sioux City School District for 44 years, retiring in 1981. Mrs. Counterman passed away on Aug. 21, 1993, in Sioux City.

He was of the Methodist faith and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1973. He enjoyed fishing and traveling.

He is survived by three sons, Stephen Counterman and his wife, Karen, Mark Counterman and Coy Counterman and his wife: Valerie, all of Sioux City; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters.

He was also preceded in death by three sons, Gregg, Sonny and Anthony Counterman; and his parents, Everett and Carrie (Schultz) Counterman.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
