Dorathie June Cotton, 73, of Sioux City died Sunday, Oct. 26, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home, with Chaplain Patricia Mersch officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Mrs. Cotton was born June 21, 1924, in South Sioux City, the daughter of Marcus and Pearl (Mitchell) Bradshaw. She was raised in the South Sioux City and Sioux City area.

She served in the WAVES during World War II, stationed in Spain and several locations in the United States, including Washington D.C. She returned to Sioux City in 1969.

She married Richard Cotton on July 7, 1945, in Sioux City. He died July 7, 1990, in Sioux City.
She graduated from the Ellis Beauty School in Sioux City. She owned an operated a beauty
shop for several years. She was also employed by the Department of the Navy at the Pentagon in Washinton D.C.

She was the first secretary/treasurer of the Tri-State Chapter of the American Exprisoner of Wars, an organization founded by her husband. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3239 in Lake Andes, S.D.

Survivors include a daughter, Angela Johnson of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Richard and Sherry Cotton of Sioux City; two stepsons, Darrell Cotton of Palm Dale, Calif, and Bernard Cotton of Reno, Nev.; and three grandchildren, Jeffery Kane, Jeremiah Feller and Ryley Cotton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.
