DANBURY - Leota E. Schreiber died on Monday, November 26, 2007, in Mapleton at the age of 83 years, 9 month, and 5 days.

Visitation and the vigil wake service were held on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury. The Rosary was led by St. Mary's Rosary Society.

The Funeral Mass was held on Thursday, November 29, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury with Rev. Terry Roder officiating. The Message in Music was provided by Organist Julie Hamann, Soloist Sharyl Bruning, and St. Mary's Choir. Pallbearers were Leota's great grandsons Vance Lacey, Brendan Kobriger, Aaron Howing, Evan Howing Justin Howing, Drew Howing, and Justin Wright. Honorary Pallbearers were Leota's great granddaughters Nicole Lacey, Lexie Kobriger, Lacey Kobriger, Janae Howing, Taylor Devine, and Shayla Willits. Interment was held at Sacred Heart Cemetery at Ida Grove.

Armstrong Funeral Service of Mapleton and Danbury was in charge of the arrangements.

Born on February 21, 1924, at Danbury, Iowa, Leota Elizabeth Schreiber was the daughter of Peter and Theresa. (Ortner) Wolterman. She grew up and received her education in the Danbury area, graduating from Danbury Public School with the class of 1942. On November 6, 1945, she was united in marriage to Melvin, W. Schreiber. The couple made their home on a farm between Ida Grove and Battle Creek, Iowa. Melvin died in May of 1956.

Leota was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury. She was a retired member of St. Mary's Rosary Society and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for many years. Leota was a loving, particular person who showed us a path on many struggles of the world.

She bowled and golfed in her younger years and enjoyed all types of cards. She especially enjoyed her years of playing bridge.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Lacey of Danbury; her daughter-in-law, Nancy Steuk of Ida Grove, Iowa; five grandchildren, Matt Lacey and his wife, Toni, Teresa Kobriger and her husband, Brent, Michelle Howing and her husband, Brent, Jerret Schreiber and his fiancee Denise Overmohle, and Christin Devine and her husband, Christopher; 11 great grandchildren, Nicole and Vance Lacey, Brendan, Lexie and Lacey Kobriger, Janae, Aaron, Evan, Justin, and Drew Howing, and Taylor Devine; two step grandchildren, Justin Wright and Shayla Willits; one brother and his wife, Peter M. and Lois Wolterman of Danbury; four sisters, Vera Petersen of Mapleton, Ardis Baker of Quimby, Iowa, Kay Ehrhorn of Chicago, Illinois, and Kathleen Kinsella of Estherville, Iowa; one brother-in-law, Don Uhl of Mapleton; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Wolterman of Mapleton and Dolores Schreiber of Battle Creek, Iowa; along with numerous other relatives.

Along with her husband, Leota was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Marc Schreiber; one son-in-law, Darnell Lacey; one brother Marcellus Wolterman; and two sisters, Ethel Kohler and Lois Uhl.
