Garth William Lacey was born to William John (W.J.) and Agnes (Owens) Lacey on June 27, 1920, near Danbury, Iowa, the youngest of five children. When he was two years old, his family moved to the farm where he lived all of his life prior to entering Willow Dale Wellness Center in Battle Creek, Iowa in February 2005.

Garth attended school at the country school, Garfield #9. He engaged in farming with his father on the family farm. He married Doris Still of Ida Grove on June 17, 1944, at the Ida Grove Methodist Church. They farmed near Danbury until retirement in September 1985.

He loved his wife and family. He was grateful to have adopted his children. After the tragic loss of their three year old daughter, Kay Lynn in 1953, God brought three more children into their lives.

Garth was a member of the Battle Creek Lion's Club. He also served on the Battle Creek School Board and the Mapleton Coop Board. Everywhere he went he enjoyed visiting with people. He loved to share stories of personal and local history. Driving his three-wheeler- and pickup around the section brought enjoyment to his day. His grandchildren brought him great delight. His nieces and nephews meant a great deal to him.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Doris; three children, Douglas (Gail) Lacey, Debra Lacey, and Deanne Quayle; grandchildren; Ben (Katie) Lacey, Jennifer (Nathaniel) Feddes, Jill Lacey, and Megan, Kristopher, Jesse, Levi, and Isaiah Quayle; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gladys Bower, Doris Still, Glen and Phyllis Still, June Grieve, Walter and Audrey Kent, Irene Meyer, Marvin and Bette Still, and Jeannie Still along with many nieces and nephews and good friends.
