SIOUX CITY | Arthur W. Franker, 83, of Olathe, Kan., formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at the Sweet Life at Brookdale Nursing Home in Shawnee, Kan.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Sioux City.

Arthur was born in rural Milford, Iowa, on April 18, 1929, to parents, Oscar and Augusta Franker. He attended Milford High School and later graduated from Sioux City Central High School. He attended Morningside College in Sioux City.

Arthur married Phyllis Hinrichs of rural Hinton, Iowa, on July 2, 1949. Arthur and Phyllis lived in Sioux City for 45 years, where they raised their four children. Arthur worked at Zenith Radio Corporation in Sioux City for 30 years, leaving the company in 1978 as the quality control manager of the Sioux City facility.

Arthur and Phyllis were active members of Calvary Lutheran Church in Leeds. Arthur coached little and youth league baseball and basketball for his three sons from 1962 to 1975.

Arthur went on to work for the Defense Department, General Dynamics, Rockwell International and Northrop Grumman as a quality control avionics engineer. Projects Arthur helped build included the Hell fire missile, the B1 Bomber, and finally the B2 Bomber now stationed at Whitman Air Force Base in Missouri.

Arthur retired in 1994, and moved to Olathe, where he was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He enjoyed attending athletic events of grandchildren, professional sports and traveling.

Arthur is survived by his four children, Norman (Cathy) Franker of Olathe, Kan., David (Karen) Franker of Madison, Wis., Kathy (Ted) McIntosh of Olathe, and Mark (Kelly) Franker of Baltimore, Md.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brothers, Harlan and Grant; as well as his sister, Alma.
