SIOUX CITY | Elizabeth Ann "Babe" (Lien) Ferrell, 97, of Sioux City, formerly of Willmar, Minn., and Ridgewood, N.J., passed away Feb. 5, 2013.

The remains of Elizabeth and Herle will be interred in Sunland Cemetery, Sun City, Ariz., at a future time that is yet to be determined. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.

Ann was born on May 7, 1915, in Willmar, Minn., where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Herle Horace Ferrell. They eloped on Nov. 27, 1937, and were blessed to have celebrated 74 years of marriage. Herle passed on Sept. 13, 2012, and Ann had been impatiently waiting for his call ever since his passing.

As an adorable little girl, Ann’s father affectionately gave her the nickname Babe. Her family and relatives fondly referred to her as Babe throughout the years. Ann volunteered as a Candy Striper at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, N.J., and again in Minnesota.

Ann was a wonderful wife, homemaker and mother, instilling the love of family tradition in her children. Over time, she perfected the art of cooking and baking. She was known for her traditional Norwegian Christmas cookies, English plum pudding, and lefse. Ann’s traditions are carried on today by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her recipes have become a family treasure.

From an early age, Ann had a flare for fashion, style, and decorating. Her passion for history prompted her desire to read and travel around world. She loved vacationing at the Jersey shore, playing bridge with her friends, family picnics in the woods, and needlepoint. An occasional game of golf could be thrown in the mix.

Survivors include her son, Mike (Terri) Ferrell of Sioux City; son, Tim (Patti) Ferrell of Inverness, Ill.; daughter, Pattie (John) Bajorek of Irvine, Calif.; grandchildren, Ann (Mark) Bonessi, Lara French, Alison Ferrell, John (Shawna) Bajorek, Erik (Kelly) Bajorek, Michael (Jen) Bajorek, Daniel Bajorek, Mark (Trish) Bennett, Nick (Johanne) Bennett, Scott (Alicia) Bennett; and great-grandchildren, Chris, Jacob, and Madison Bonessi, Remington French, Riley and Skyler Bajorek, Jack and Christian Bajorek, and Piper Bennett.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Herle Ferrell; mother, Winifred Lien; father, Amos Lien; brother, Dr. John Lien; sisters, Alice Lien Heimdahl and Ester Lien Knutson; daughter-in-law, Jane Ferrell; granddaughter, Sara Ferrell; and grandson, Jack (Aya) Bennett.

In lieu of flowers and donations, simply pay a random act of kindness forward in Ann’s honor, or donations can be made to Hospice of Siouxland, 4300 Hamilton Blvd., Sioux City, IA, 51104-9916.
