Mrs. Nicholag (Lucy M.) longtime Salix resident and Woodbury County native, died Sunday, September 5, 1993, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting, Iowa.

Mrs. Topf was born June 14, 1899, in Danbury, Iowa, the daughter of Phillip and Mary (Craig) Lenz. She attended St. Patrick's school and graduated from St. Patrick's academy at Danbury. She attended Cedar Falls teachers college and taught in rural Canby, Hoyt, McAleer, Riverside and Brenner schools.

On November 27, 1919, she married Nicholas W. Topf in Danbury. The couple farmed near Sergeant Bluff for six years and then moved to the farm they purchased in 1926 near Salix, Iowa, where they lived until July 1988 when they moved to Pleasant View Nursing Home.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church at Salix, where she was past president of the St. Joseph Tabernacle Society and is now an honorary member of the Tabernacle Society; the Salix Study Club; the Salix Birthday Club; and the Smith-Rhodes American Legion Auxiliary of Sloan. She was past president of the Robert C. Irish American Legion Auxiliary of Salix and past vice president of the Woodbury County American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include: six sons, Lawrence J. of Sloan, Nicholas J. of Carroll, IA; Donald E. of Quincy, IL, Maurice J. of Sergeant Bluff, IA, David W. of Richmond, VA, and Dennis P. of Fort Collins, CO; two daughters, Mrs. Hubeft (Mary Phyllis) Trudeau of Salix, IA, and Mrs. Lee (Patricia) Hanssen of Lee's Summit, MO; 25 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren, and two step great-great¬grandsons; and two sisters, Catherine Uehle of Long Beach, CA, and Ann Kelley of Hacienda Heights, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two infant sons, Bernard and James; two sisters, Ellen and Alice; five brothers, Joe Lenz, Philip Lenz, Fr. Gerald Skahill, Alfred Skahill and Merlin Skahill; and her step-father, William Skahill.

The Rosary was at 7:15 p.m. and the Scripture Service was at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 1993, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salix, IA. The organist was Jane Heisterkamp and the Cantor was Al Stuhrenberg.

The Funeral Mass was at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 8, 1993, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salix, IA, with Father Bruce Lawier, Celebrant, and Father Torn Topf, ConCelebrant. The organist was Jane Koch and the Cantor was Dorothy Hubert.

Casket bearers were Lawrence J. Topf, Nicholas J. Topf, Donald E. Topf; Maurice J. Topf, David W. Topf, and Dennis P. Topf.

Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Salix, IA, with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
