Ronald E. Polly, 73, of Whiting, formerly of Smithland, passed away Jan. 21, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Ronald Earl was born on Aug. 24, 1939 in Sloan, the son of Joy Clare and Lillie Mae (Sierks) Polly. He grew up in the Sloan and Albaton areas and attended school there and in Rodney, Holly Springs, and Smithland. After school, he worked on a ranch in Montana and served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 1963 to Feb. 1965 and was stationed in Mineral Wells, Texas.

Ronald Polly and JoAnn Cooper were united in marriage on May 21, 1966, in Onawa. To this union, three children were born.

Ronald returned to the Albaton area to work with his father and brothers in the land leveling business. He also worked for several contractors operating heavy equipment.

His hobbies were horses, putting up hay, and cutting wood. He was a member of the Smithland American Legion Leslie F. Seaton Post #0666.

Ronald is survived by two sons, Ronald Louis (Linda) Polly of Smithland and Troy Joy (Brenda) Polly of Sloan; one daughter, Carrie Lynn Polly of St. Paul, Minn.; one stepson, Robbie Jensen of Onawa; seven grandchildren, Brittney, Ronda, Justin, Jessica, Megan, Ryan, and Blake; two step-grandchildren, Nick and Kamie; one great-grandson, Paxton; three step-great-grandchildren, Alexis, Brody, and Nickita; three sisters, Sharon Prichard of Council Bluffs, Vickie (John) Marks of Omaha, Neb., and Susan (Dennis) Wiggs of Whiting; a sister-in-law, Shirley Polly of Salt Lake City, Utah; and former wife JoAnn of Smithland.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Rad; two brothers, Norman Polly and Duane Polly; a sister-in-law, Sandy Polly; and an aunt and uncle, Gale and Alfreda Polly.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa with Pastor John Sears officiating. Music selections included “The Old Rugged Cross” and “In the Garden” with Ken South as soloist and Ann Phillips as organist. Burial followed in the Little Sioux Township Cemetery in Smithland. Visitation was held from 5–8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Arrangements were under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Casket bearers were Dennis Wiggs, John Marks, Chris Prichard, Ray Prichard, Fred Parks, and Jason Wiggs.

Honorary bearers were Roger Yockey, Jim Yockey, Jason Yockey, Gary Sulsberger, Bob Sulsberger, and Cory Brown.
