SIOUX CITY | Betty Mae Deming, 86, formerly of Sioux City, passed away peacefully on Jan. 24, 2013, at Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, S.D.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Betty was born May 11, 1926 in Sioux City to Harvey and Grace Griffin. She graduated from Central High School in Sioux City, and then in 1948 proceeded to graduate from Wayne State College in Nebraska, thereafter beginning a lifetime of teaching both in and out of the classroom.

She had told her mother, after coming home from school one day in third grade, that she would one day marry a brown-eyed man like Don Deming, and indeed she did. She was married on Aug. 20, 1948 to the same Donald Miller Deming.

She was a Sioux City Lioness, a member of the Round Table Society, the P.E.O, and attended the Morningside Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends, along with many other social pursuits. Betty was a lifelong reader and proponent of reading.

She is survived by her daughters, Catherine and husband Keith McClary of Norfolk, Neb.; Judy and husband Perry Nelson of Elk Point, S.D., and Ellen Buchanan of Blanchard, Okla.; her sons, Peter of Yankton, S.D., and Andrew and his wife Angela Deming of Martinez, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; sisters, Helen Drummond and Jean Brown and their spouses; sister-in-law, Sharon Johnson; and grandson, Aaron Michael Deming.

Thanks go out to the staff at Bethesda for their devotion and kind attention throughout Bettyıs stay
