SIOUX CITY -- Carmel F. Couchman, 76, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at Casa de Paz Care Center after a long illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Carmel was born March 11, 1935 in Sioux City, to Dominic and Elizabeth (Mahr) Boyle. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Heelan High School and Briar Cliff College.

Carmel taught at St. Joseph Grade School for a few years and then moved to Des Moines and taught middle school in the West Des Moines School District. Many of her students remained in touch with her for years.

She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. Carmel had a good sense of humor and was quick witted. She also enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include two sisters, Mary Lou Zimmerman of San Bernardino, Calif., and Bernice Anderson of Margate, Fla.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Walter, Dominic, George and Eugene Boyle.

Pallbearers will be Dick Boyle, Jeff Boyle, Rob Heller, Aaron Gehling, Scott Boyle and Nick Heller.

Memorials may be made in Carmel's name to the Larry Boyle Support Fund.
