18 December 2011SIOUX CITY -- Henry Schuur, 92, of Sioux City died on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, at a local care facility.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Third Presbyterian Church in Sioux City, with the Revs. David A Choate and Steve Jewett officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present and a Masonic Service conducted at 7 p.m., at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Henry was born on Oct. 6, 1914 in Austinville, Iowa, the son of Albert and Christina Schuur.
Henry was united in marriage with Eleanor Frank in 1949. The family then relocated to Sioux City in 1956. Henry was employed by Herman Brothers Transportation as a truck driver for many years. He was an active member of the Teamsters Union.
From 1932 to 1942, Hank was a professional middleweight boxer and was southwestern Minnesota champion. He boxed regularly in Jackson, Minn., and Estherville, Iowa. Jack Dempsy, a heavyweight champion, refereed one of his fights in Jackson.
He was also very active in the local Masonic organizations, including Landmark Lodge No. 103, where he served as Worshipful Master in 1984. He was given the title of Tiler one day prior to his passing. He was also a member of the York Rite, The Scottish Rite, a member of the Abu-Bekr Shrine Temple and was a former member of the Abu-Bekr Foot Patrol. He also was a Certified Masonic Instructor and Certified District Lecturer.
In retirement Henry enjoyed being a motorcycle enthusiast and restoring antique tractors.
He is survived by his sons, Thomas and his wife, D.D. of Omaha, Neb., and David and his wife, Judy of Millersville, Md.; a sister, Ann Mauch of Adrian, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eleanor; son, Jack; daughters, Kathleen Dibble, Debra Bowden and Pat Shouts-Olson; grandson, Dan Schuur; sister, Rennie Bodde; and brothers, Ralph and Ben.
Memorials may be made to the family for designation at a later date.
