SLOAN, Iowa -- Eva Dean (Holmes) Redmond, 89, of Sloan died Friday, Dec. 16, 2011 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Sloan, with the Rev. Richard Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery at Albaton, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Eva Dean was born on March 10, 1922 in Albaton, Iowa, the daughter of James A. "Art" and Jessie (Curl) Holmes. She attended school in Albaton and Sloan, graduating from Sloan High School in 1940.

She married Gale Redmond on Dec. 25, 1946 and the couple lived in Sloan all of their married life. She retired in 1988 after 35 years as a bookkeeper with the Farmers Cereal Coop in Sloan, and then worked part-time at the Farmers Coop Elevator in Salix for 11 years.

Until it closed in 2005, she was a lifelong member of the Albaton Wesleyan Church and served on the church board and as treasurer for many years. She was presently attending the Evangelical Covenant Church in Sloan. She was also a member of the Smith-Rhodes American Legion Auxiliary, T.O.P.S., Red Hats, and a former member of Siouxland Crafters.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Jenise and Ralph Guenther of Sergeant Bluff, and Julie and Gary Sutton of Lancaster, Calif.; one son, Jeff Redmond of Sloan; two grandsons, Brandon Guenther of Lancaster, and Andrew Guenther and his wife Jill of Omaha, Neb.; a great-granddaughter, Maddisyn Guenther of Omaha; a sister, Margery and her husband the Rev. Robert Zuhl of Battle Creek, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 64 years, Gale, who passed away on Oct. 17, 2011; four sisters, Gladys (Fritz) Nelson, Cloda (Don) Croker, June Pauline Holmes and Jessie Mabel Holmes (both toddlers who died from diphtheria); and a brother, James Ernie Holmes.
