SIOUX CITY -- Robert "Bob" L. Fortune, 60, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at a local hospital.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the U.S. Army offering military rites. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Avenue.

Bob was born Jan. 27, 1951, in Sioux City, to Robert K. and Dorothy (Desy) Fortune. He received his education in Sioux City, graduating from Central High School with the Class of 1969. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1972. He received the National Defense Service Medal and a Marksman Commendation for the M-16 rifle before receiving his honorable discharge in January of 1978.

Bob returned to Sioux City and began his civilian career with Elastomer Engineering Inc., working for over 23 years and leaving his supervisor position due to health reasons only two weeks ago.

Bob was an avid football fan, enjoying gardening, and he collected wolves. He loved to fish, spend time with family and was a "constant reader" of Stephen King novels, which he collected.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Mandy Nichols and her husband, Michael of Sioux City; son, Kevin Fortune and his wife and children of Minnesota; brothers, Richard Fortune and Ronald Fortune and sister, Theresa Fortune, all of Sioux City; grandson, Zachary Nichols of Sioux City; and niece and nephew, Becky and Trevor Bleil of Moville, Iowa, and their children, Cindel, Kayser and Melinda.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Fortune; and granddaughter, Kailey Nichols.
