ANTHON, IA - Maizel H. Buettner, 86, of Anthon passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2007.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, March 7, 2007, after 2:00 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon. The prayer service was held at 5:00 p.m. The funeral service was held on Thursday, March 8, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Anthon with Rev. Andrew Carlson presiding. Organist Jerane Hayworth led the congregation in singing "Amazing Grace," "Abide With Me," and "How Great Thou Art." Connie.and Judy Jensen were in charge of the flowers.

Pallbearers were Adam Buettner, Jeff Roost, Randy Krueger, Daryl Scheer, Ronnie Christopherson, and Jim Peters. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery at Anthon. Armstrong Funeral Home of Anthon and Mapleton were in charge of the arrangements.

Maizel Henrietta (Scheer) Buettner was born on August 4, 1920 to Henry Joseph and Johanna (Dohrman) Scheer at the family farm in Oto Township, Section 14, Danbury, Iowa. She received her education in the country schools. On December 2, 1945 she married Lawrence T. Buettner at St. John's Lutheran Church, Climbing Hill, Iowa. After Lawrence's discharge from the Army the couple started farming east of Anthon and she lived on the farm until she entered the nursing home in 2005. Lawrence passed away on May 9, 2000.

Maizel was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Anthon and served as circle chairman at different times in the church and also held offices in the LWML at Trinity. She enjoyed baking, gardening, crocheting, and quilting. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and picnics and get-togethers with all her brothers and sisters and their families.

Survivors include two sons; Marvin and his wife Vickie Buettner, of Anthon, and their three daughters; Stephanie and husband Dennis Miller and daughter Kelsie of Council Bluffs, IA, Molly and husband Bill Craig and children Zachary, Christian, and Billi Katherine of Danbury, IA, and Carrie and husband Thomas Kreber Jr. and son Jack of Omaha, NE; and Dale and his wife Pam Buettner of Anthon and their four children, Jonathon still at home, Adam Buettner and his daughter Kaylyn of Anthon, Christine Buettner and son Eann of Sioux City, Iowa, and Jeff Roost of Sioux City, IA and his daughter Brooklynn; one sister Lorraine Scheer and one brother Alfred Scheer both of Correctionville, IA; a sister-in-law Lucille Buettner of Anthon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Maizel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lawrence; one daughter Marilyn; six brothers Aldre, Lester, Vern, Henry, Arlo, and Edwin and his wife May Scheer; and three sisters Alverta and her husband Ted Hauschildt, Sylvia and her husband Carl Wasmund, Helma and her husband Don Krueger, and one brother-in-law Harold Buettner.
