Lester W. Burdick, 89, of Sioux City died Monday, July 28, 1997, at the Countryside Retirement Home following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home, with the Rev. Alex Washington officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a Masonic service at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Burdick was born Dec. 17, 1907, in Sioux City. He attended Sioux City schools. He married Christine Mogensen on Feb. 26, 1938 in Sioux City. She died Aug. 9, 1988.
He was employed by the Sioux City Fire Department from 1940 until serving in World War II. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Wright in the South Pacific during the war. Following his discharge he returned to the Sioux City Fire Department until retiring in 1970 as an assistant chief.
He was a 46 year member of the Triangle Masonic Lodge 643, where he attained the rank of Senior Warden, and the Retired Fireman's Association.
Survivors include a niece, Judy Crawford; five nephews, Jim Cochran, Bud Burdick, Don, Gene and Richard Mogensen; and several other nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
