John Spencer Bunch Sr., 78, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at his residence.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Martha Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Bunch was born June 19, 1924, in Sergeant Bluff, the son of Curtis F. and Eva May (Smith) Bunch. He attended East Junior High School and East High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from July 7, 1942 to Feb. 17, 1945.

He married Leshia M. Marshall on Aug. 4, 1945, in Sioux City.

He first worked as a street car driver, then as a bus driver before working in the maintenance department at Needhams Packing. He later worked construction with Labor Local 427 in Sioux City.

He was a member of Rustin Avenue United Methodist Church, Disabled American Veterans and Veterans Of Foreign Wars Sergeant Floyd Post 1973. He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed fishing, camping and boating.

Survivors include his wife, Leshia M. Bunch of Sioux City; three sons and their wives, James C. and Carol Bunch, John and Dixie Bunch Jr. and Robert and Louette Bunch, all of Sioux City; two daughters, Marsha Criddle of Dakota City and Eva "Peach" and her husband, Tom Richards, of Littleton, Colo.; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, John W. Criddle; two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Ocean; a brother, Orval; and three sisters, Edythe Peters, Myrna Redenius and infant sister, Opal.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, John Criddle Jr., Kevin Criddle, Jason Bunch, Chad Bunch, Brandon Bunch and Zach Richards.

Honorary pallbearer will be his grandson, Greg Richards.
