Neal F. Byrne, 74, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Crescent Park United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kristine Frank officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mr. Byrne was born April 3, 1927, in Sioux City, the son of Donald and Martha (Davenport)
Byrne. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools. He graduated from Central High School in 1945. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. He married Norma J. Parker on Sept. 16, 1950, in Dakota City. In Feb. 1951, he was called back. in to the Navy for the Korean conflict.He lived most of his life in Sioux City. He worked for Trienen Music Company for many years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Patti and Dick Sulzbach of Sioux City, and Pammy and Rober Aarsleff of Poway, Calif.; five sons, Richard Neal and his wife, Kim Byrne of Omaha, Clarence Byrne of Sioux City, Brian L. and his wife, Cindy Byrne of South Sioux City, Bob Byrne of Sioux City, and Michael and his wife, Laurie Byrne of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Kenneth and Mary Byrne of Sioux City; 20 grandchildren, Jon and his wife, Lori Sulzbach, Jason Sulzbach, Joe and his wife, Cheri Sulzbach, Jeff Sulzbach, Cody and his wife, Shanda Byrne, Kayla Byrne, Adam, Cory, Nick and Amanda Byrne, Tricia and Kristi Wiegert, Courtney, Brandon, Robert Jr., Halee and MaKayla Byrne, and Ashlie, Alyssa and Amber Byrne; five great-grandchildren, Christopher and Cydney Sulzbach, Catie, Alexis and Hunter Byrne.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald "Bud" Byrne and Clarnce Byrne; a sister, Helen Chronic; and twin daughters, Teresa and Terry Byrne.
Pallbearers will be Jon, Jason and Joe Sulzbach, Cory, Adam, Cody and Nick Byrne.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland or the Make a Wish Foundation.
