SAN JACINTO, Calif. — Robert Bashford Carson, 81, of San Jacinto, a former Sioux City resident, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999 , in San Jacinto following a 10-year illness.
Graveside services were held Thursday at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif., with the Rev. Jack Vaugh officiating. Burial was with military honors. The Harford Funeral Home of Hemet, Calif. was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Carson was born March 24, 1917, in Sheldon, Iowa, the son of the Rev. F. Stanley and Grace (Darling) Carson. He lived with his parents in China for 12 years, where they were missionaries.
After returning to Sioux City, he graduated from East High School and attended Morningside College for three years.He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II.
He married Pauline A. Harbors on March 26, 1960, in Sergeant Bluff.
He had lived in San Jacinto the past 14 years. He was an automobile salesman, a foreman on construction sites, in mobile home sales and a carpenter.
While living in Sioux City, he was a member of Tyrian Lodge No. 508, the Masons and the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple and was involved in the Sioux City Community Theater.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Barbara J. Butler of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, Connie Butler, Carole Nichols, Daniel and Bill Blitler and Robert III, Chris, Neil and Rachel Carson, and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert B. Carson, Jr., and a brother, Lewis Carson.
