Carl A. Carlson, 87, of Sioux City died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at his residence.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. today at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Tess Panamarow officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to services today at the church. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Carlson was born Aug. 13, 1914, in Plattville, Colo., the son of Peter and Hilda (Olander) Carlson. He attended Central High School and N.B.T. in Sioux City. He married Goldie E. Gustafson on March 7, 1942, in Papillion, Neb. He moved to the Sioux City area in 1921. He was employed at Sioux City Stationary Store for nearly 40 years, and was the company secretary, retiring in 1980. He entered the U.S. Army and served from 1942 to 1946 in the European and Pacific theaters.

He was past president of the Business Leaders Club and a charter member of the Sertoma Club. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a 50-year member of Masonic Landmark Lodge 103, the Sioux City Consistory and the Abu Bekr Shrine. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and gardening.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, LeAnne and Robert Nordquist of Lincoln,, Neb.; and a brother, Donald Carlson of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Harold, Ralph and Clifford Carlson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Ferner, Les Noll, Henry Ginsburg and Lavail Olson.

Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
