Carl A. Sorensen, 82, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at a Sioux City nursing
home following a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Gary Bode officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Mr. Sorensen was born Nov. 19, 1918, in Bancroft, Neb., the son of Peder and Inger (Hoiberg) Sorensen. He was raised in the Bancroft area and graduated from Bancroft Public School in 1936. He then farmed on the family farm.

He served in the U.S. Army during World II, stationed in the European Theater.

He then moved to Elk Point, S.D., where he was employed as a milk deliveryman with Roberts Dairy.

He married Kathleen Mary Robinson on Dec. 19, 1947, in Elk Point. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1950, where he was employed as a service man for Sioux City Milk Producers, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he was a former board council member, and American Legion. He was active in the Woodland Campground at Little Sioux, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, James and Sandra of Omaha:, a daughter and her husband, Nancy and Ben Steffe of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Jackie Crosbie and Brent Sorensen; six great-grandchildren; and a stepdaughter, Sharon Metz of LaHabre, Calif.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eric and Vincent.

Pallbearers will be Brent Sorensen, Derrick Crosbie, Dick Hrasky, Jim Cornelius and Eric and Charlie Riley.

Memorials may be directed to Grace Lutheran Church.
