CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa — Lloyd Henry Byers, 75, of Correctionville died suddenly Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church rural Correctionville, with the Rev. Burt Burwell officiating. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Barker Funeral Home in Correctionville.

Mr. Byers was born March 12, 1927, north of Correctionville, the youngest son of Henry and Lottie (Hinkhouse) Byers. He graduated from Correctionville. High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1945 to 1947.

He married Opal Pauline Foster on Sept. 15, 1948. They bought a farm in 1950, where, they raised their seven children. Opal died Feb. 23, 1974.

He married Elaine Zona Wimmer on May 5, 1979. After retirement from farming, he operated an antique store and did community service work.

He was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church. He also was a member of CEDCOR, Chamber of Commerce, Rural Woodbury Historical Society and American Legion. He enjoyed sports, outdoor activities such as deer and pheasant hunting, golfing and working with his hands. He was a family man surrounded by seven children, 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Byers; six sons and their wives, Keith and Lila of Correctionville, Larry and Pat of Bleneoe, Iowa, David and Cherrie of Correctionville, Lewis and Janet of Pierson, Iowa, Jason and Becky of Correctionville and Jaret and Rene of Correcttionville; a daughteg, and her husband, Nancy and Dennis Sargent of Correctionville; a brother and his wife, Ralph and Margaret; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four sisters-in-law, Lucille and her husband, Gerald Perkins of Correctionville, Joyce Goosmann and Betty Foster, both of Sioux City and Darlene Foster of Newell, Iowa.

His parents, first wife and three brothers-in-law, all preceded him in death.

The family requests that memorials be given to the Salem Lutheran Memorial Fund in lieu of flowers.
