Wallace R. Butler, 78, of Sioux City died Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Graceland Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Allen Call of First United Methodist Church officiating. The body was cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Funeral Service.

Mr. Butler was born Jan. 30, 1920, in Sioux City, the son of Roy and Florence (Barton) Butler. He graduated from Central High School in 1938.

He owned and operated Butler Printing. He also was employed as a salesman with Standard Office Equipment and Mid Western Paper.

He married Colleen Palmer Custer on July 2, 1953, in Crystal Lake. Neb.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II from 1941 to 1946 as a gunner's mate in the Pacific Theater.

He was a member and past master of North Riverside Lodge 662 A.F.& A.M., the Sioux City Scottish Rite Bodies and Abu Bekr Shrine Temple, where he was past president of the Oriental Band. He enjoyed playing golf.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Darcy and her husband, Richard Hooks, of Dakota Dunes, Kandyce and her husband, Stephen Morzenti, of Casper, Wyo., and Allison.Pratt; and four grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Kyle Hooks and Adam and Alex Pratt.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Warren.
